"The theater is the active reflection of man on himself": a reflection that a master, a director like Giorgio Strehler has been able to reconcile best with his life. In fact, he succeeded in contrasting life with the scene, where all freedoms are possible. His impressive artistic production is the testimony of a cultural growth that sees Italian theater combined with that of the European scene.
His fifty-year career saw him committed to the direction of the "Piccolo" of Milan he founded in 1947 with Paolo Grassi. Strehler succeeded in developing a theatrical work linked to poetic realism through the works of great authors such as Shakespeare, Goldoni, Pirandello, Brecht, Bertolazzi, Chekhov.
He has not only traveled the theater path with the contribution of director also to the opera, but his knowledge of music has made his "ability" excel in having known how to "modernize" the backward theatrical traditions by creating the epiphany of a completely new theatrical method, offering viewers of all social backgrounds the projection of a fantastic kaleidoscope of the world of art, poetry and music. Words and music directed the life of Giorgio Strehler as he himself directed music and theater.
